There are a number of business schools that are beginning to introduce Islamic Finance to their curriculum. For some, it is a question of introducing finance students to different cultural realities but for many, it simply makes business sense. Among the reasons why finance students find an increasing interest in this subject, we can mention the fact that the Islamic Finance industry is a niche in a market that is growing at a tremendous speed.
The growing number of Islamic Financial Institutions and their importance in international financial markets have resulted in an increasing interest by western financial institutions in understanding this phenomenon and a growing interest in finding ways to penetrate this new market. The industry is still young and open to new innovations and, therefore, finance students can provide the innovation the industry needs. Moreover, in the financial turmoil in which we currently live, finance students need to contribute to the current global financial situation and gain a deeper understanding of some of the elements of Islamic Finance that will help shape the debate on the new financial order.
